Glad you got home ok. Yes, it is possible to blow a gasket a little bit. But if it is gone in a small spot, it will likely expand. Any foaming in the coolant, or beginning to foam? That is a sure sign of oil in the coolant, and can be a major cleanout problem. Short of a foaming of the coolant, I am not sure how a partial head gasket leak would cause overheating, unless it began to gunk up the thermostat. My first check would be the coolant for signs of foaming, then the radiator cap, thermostat, and finally do a compression check on the cylinders. k_enn

| That was really a great trip, with great people. I never knew there was that much to do in Centralia. The crack in the road, the old cemetery, the dump where it started, all the dirt roads, and the hiking. Can't wait for the "Built Ford Tough" video.

| KEN!!!! Your XTERRA is gorgeous!!! Isn't that body size great?!?!? I loved my '05...such a tank. You enjoy that puppy!!!
I'm glad you all had fun!!! Maybe, seeing as there is plenty to do there in Centralia...and you can visit the Yuengling Brewery...and go camping, this could be a weekend thing for the club sometime. My Xterra club were camped out and wheeling @ Rausch for a 4 day event one year and then on that saturday afternoon, we decided to go to Centralia and the Yuengling Brewery (such a great tour!!!) and it was a blast!!!
Hope you all can do it again sometime!

Thanks. The second generation Xterra is nice. I like some of the changes - the interior ventilation is much better, the interior is a little nicer, the slightly better clearance and larger tire capability, the improved sound system with sub-woofer and auxiliary input, and the ease of lifting with coil-overs up front. Some of the newer available "goodies" are nice - factory bluetooth, factory locker, factory installed bilsteins, factory roof lights, the new cargo organizer, and a six speed manual instead of the old five speed. I am not too keen on the new front diff - too weak. Also, I hear there are still problems with re rear diff covers pealing back. Also, I am not too keen on the greater width and higher hood line. Still is a well built truck. I still think it is the best bang for the buck. Now I just have to get started on the mods. k_enn

| Eric... Because I'm dumb and keep forgetting... What's the title of that song you were playing that we were gonna use for the video? I thought I had it, but nothing is coming up on iTunes. | |

| Centralia surely deserves a re-visit. I had a blast yesterday. The weather was chilly at first, but later on, didn't seem too bad. It was great to meet Ken and Eric's brother...Sorry I forgot his name Ken, I was impressed with the Xterra. She is pretty sharp looking, and looks like a great platform to build upon! Eric......what can I say!!!!! You showed those rocks, mud holes, and hills who is the BOSS! You owned Centralia in that Focus. Who says you need ground clearance and 4 wheel drive. Thanks to all of you for showing us "Newbz" (I use that term lovingly ) around the town. I would still be trying to find the place to park! | |

What are the specs on your rig? Jeep 4.0L? How hot did it get? Unless the coolant looks like the water after the BP Gulf oil spill, I wouldn't be too concerned with it. The ethylene glycol in the antifreeze tends to give it an oily sheen, given the right mixture. That slight amount of oil also as a lubricant to the water pump bearings. Usually in the Jeep motors, when the head gasket blows, it allows compression to seep between two combustion chambers. Then you end up with a misfire and check engine light. Sorry you couldn't make it up, but I'm glad you made it home okay. You have my cell number, feel free to call me if you have any questions.

hahahahaha that picture just made my night! thanks for the compliment the only part i really thought i was gonna have some trouble on was that rock hill! also, i think that was fantastic when A) you all were surprised as hell when i made it through that first water hole and B) the constant looks i got when people on ATVs and hikers saw my sedan cruising down a rock slope or being in other places a car like mine generally does not belong. While i enjoyed "Off-roading the Focus" i think i will be setting my sights on getting a DEDICATED off-road vehicle as soon as i can

| Ok I am about to post a "rough draft" of the "Built Ford Tough" video. It's not that it's bad, but I am sure with other brains and a better editing program and a lot more time, it can be a masterpiece. It would have been better if the camera lady had gotten better shots...lol...
I can still edit it and if anyone has any additions, lemme know! The song was TOO good - however, you'll have to forgive a few of the "D - words" and such.
If you don't laugh, there is something wrong with you....

k_enn Oh yes, I remember it happening with mine. We had to remove it and hammer the lip back to normal. It is definitely a trail whale...but I has/have never felt more safe!!! And yes, looking over that hood was a challenge sometimes!!! But it can wheel the snot out of MANY of the trails at RC....stock. I did some of the blues @ RC (all the 12's, etc) when it was stock. Of course it was more fun with the lift! The Calmini 3" lift was easy to put on...and after all was said and done with parts (new brake line extenders, etc) it was less than $600. Anyway...enjoy!
