| Hey all – got a technical question…
U-Joints are going out on the front axle (you know – I’m not sure but I think it’s a Dana 30).
Anyway, until I get the money and time, I was wondering if I could pull the axles & drive w/o, or would that just send all the diff fluid out the ends?
Thanks in advance! | |

| My husband says he believes you can disconnect the front drive shaft . No fluid should come out as you are disconnecting it from the yoke at the axle and at the transfer case | |

| Pretty sure that is a bad idea to pull the shafts. No tech to support my opinion just seems bad... I | |

| Actually, the axle joints, prob both sides.
I was thinking if I could pull the axles n replace the joints as I had time - that way if I ran into something unexpected I could still drive it.
Guess another issue could be contaminants - even though I only drive 3 mi per day.

| there is no way around it. leave it together until you can fix it. if you pull the axle shafts fluid will come out and dirt and whatever else you drive though will get in. if you are not in 4wd there should not be any stress on the joints and the little bit you drive it should be fine for a while. | |

| I must admit to being a bit paranoid, having run into some terrible issues doing various CV joints on fwd cars throughout the years.
The only unforeseen issue I ran into was having to buy a 12pt socket. …I can’t remember running into a 12pt in the last 20 years =/
Most recently, I’ve developed a squeak that is pretty much only noticeable when in reverse. Google’s telling me it may be time to do the drive shafts now :-(
