well i think a jeep is a good daily driver, great in the snow and does good for stock offroading. im being honest not trying to "glammor" the name jeep about how far i can get a stock jeep to go but i think that a jeep is the best 4wd vehicle on the market due to easy parts to find and good gas milage for normal driving conditions. for when mine was stock i think it got like 20mpg. it was my brothers at the time (ss) once things got added on to it, thats was another story but oh well. here some pro and cons for what i think about the jeep. remember im thinking 97 and above. i dont get into the older jeeps due to the fact i never realy had to do much to them except lift kits. pros easy top removal great for winter and offroading applications. easy to find parts for and after market acessories coil suspension for 97 and above 4.0 great long lasting motor cons dana 35 is a boat anchor torque bolts (need to go to angermanagement after rounding them out after words or do alot of talking to GOD during that time) death wobble for 97 and above. exhaust manifold crack

The jeep wrangler 97 through 06 is by far the best for offroading. I know that I am going to get hate mail from all the nissan owners but I don't care. They would not even have 4x4 if it was not for Jeep. Rockready you are right. the parts and atermarket is almost to good. The wheeling is down right crazy. They for the most part past for ever. I have 182000 miles on mine right now. I will tell you that if I crawl to slow I will lose oil presure but who really needs that. I have driven a stock TJ though 17" of snow with just AT tires on it. All the modications can be done in a home garage with basic tools. There may be a lot of talking to God during it but you can it get done. Just at Chris and me about the duel lift chalange that we had with his and mine. I little blood, mad wives and sleeping on the couch was all worth it. I love my jeep and some of the worst times of my life my jeep got me though. For more info you will need to ask. just because i love that little guy. ok the pros and cons pros 1. american icon 2. aftermarket 3. you can take the doors off and drive around 4. nothing sexier than a group of girls driving around with the jeep top off 5. easy to work on. 6. they will take a beating. 7. long lasting 8. everyone wants one 9. they are great to drive 10 it is a jeep what else is there to say 11. jeep wave cons 1. no back seat space 2. stupid star bolts 3. everyone that doesn't have a jeep hates you 4. easy to break into. like with the top and doors off. 5. ther might be something else but i can't think of it.

It was said many times and in many competitions that the best "out-of-the-box", straight off the show floor 4WD for all around use including really wheeling it, was the 97-06 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon series, specifically the automatic in most cases, BUT, the 07 and up JK is rally putting a move on the TJ / LJ series. People hated the JK when it first arrived (me included) but it is really starting to show its class. Anyway, there are specific areas that other 4wd's shine, but in the overall class, jeep still hits it. The FJ Cruiser is another that is doing great tho and would have really hammered the market had it cam in a solid axle version. That said, I love my LJ, but if I have to hit the hi-way for a long run, the Jeep will be on a trailer and I will drive the more comfortable Super Duty!!!!

I love mine but agree with AZ long drives are not the best in it. A stock one would prolly be OK but modified, I'll take Patteys X or my Ram. I don't think I will ever not own a jeep at this point. The new JK's are really growing on me especially when they are modded. Not a big fan of the 4 door but when it is on 37" tires

How did I miss this thread? I am not here to rag on, or praise, jeeps. They do have some positive features -- solid front axel (even if a little weak), great aftermarket support, realtiviely simple design that can be worked on. On the other hand, for my purposes, I will stick with the first generation Xterra (I am not sure if I would go with the current model). Although aftermarket support is limited, you can get what you need (sometimes only from one source). Although a little more complicated mechanically, you can still do a lot of work/modifications on them yourself. They are pretty rugged and capable, especially with minor modifications. The one limiting factor is the independent front suspension, but that is not too much of an issue unless you want a tremendous amount of lift. One major advantage is the rear axel -- strong. But the main factor for me is the complete body (no soft top, removable doors, etc) with plenty of interior room. To each, his own.

Well said, Ken. I love Jeeps and can't wait to have one, but I will always say how great my X is. They really have come to receive the respect they deserve and that makes me smile. I, on the other hand, can't WAIT to find an easy way to take my X's doors off...and once it's mine, it'll be chopped up like the Phoenix and a canvas top be made.... .....I'll have a JeepTerra!!! It'll be the perfect blend of two great rigs!
