I'm at work....yah I know, I should be operating on someone, but my schedule's done...and someone just said to me that the prayer during the Inauguration was "TOO CHRISTIAN" and may have alienated some people. I do not have enough time right now to post my answer to them and my thoughts on it, as I have to wrap up everything for the day and head home...but until I can do so later, I'd like to know what you think about it. Short answer, I said something to the effect that while all other religions are able to be free in our society and practice wherever they please, the Christians are being stifled and made to feel they cannot practice, ANYWHERE. That caused quite a tizzy.

King Barack the First, I mean Mr. President, chose Rick Warren with the full knowledge that he was a conservative Christian. I am sure that he (Obama) was not shocked by what he heard. On the other hand, if Pastor Warren had not prayed his conscience, what should we Christians think of him and what would the Lord think of him. You are what you are, but if you change your Christianity to "agree" with the situation at hand, I believe that makes you one of those "luke warm" Christians that the Lord "spews out of his mouth." When I heard Rick Warren invoke Jesus' name, I knew there would be repricussions from the left. I'm sorry folks, but the Constitution of the United States guarantees "freedom OF religion," not "freedom FROM religion."

Sure didn't alienate all those people that were there to see it. I thought it was great. This is why Rick Warren is so well respected, for sticking to his beliefs and not being afraid to share them. On the other hand there are so many people out there that don't want you to offend or tell the Truth and think the whole world will just hold hands and get along. _________________

I wonder how much of it was just an effort to counter/overcome the campaign accusations (and perception among some) that Obama is really a Muslim and not a Christian. Indeed, I think Obama "took a hit" with respect to the public perception of his religious beliefs and affiliations with the Rev. Wright problem. I am not saying it was all a show at the inauguration, but the extent leaves it open to that interpretation.

Good point Kenn Joe (79CJ7) had a great post here about if even one person came to God from it then it was worth it, but I accidently Edited it instead of quoting it and in the end RUINED it. I hope he comes back and repost. (yes I sent an Email telling him what happened.)

| Its a prayer. No one on the planet was available who practices every religion, including atheism, on the planet. (Well, maybe there was, but, without an agent, no one knows how to reach them...) Therefore, if you are GOING TO HAVE A PRAYER, said by one man, there is NO choice, but to have that man (By man I mean the species...) say the prayer that means something to him. This means that if you want a prayer that doesn't reference god, well, its not much of a prayer...so, that prayer will reference the religion of the pray-er. I thought it was inclusive enough to keep muslims, etc, from feeling ostracized...and, and Obama being a Christian, should get what ever blessing HE wants anyway. Atheists should quite frankly not care at all what silly people say to a non-existent being if it makes them feel better, sort of like not killing your child's imaginary friend, etc. So, sure, it COULD have been done "too christian", say if it asked jesus christ to wipe all the non-believers from the earth, etc....but, I don't remember that part. :) _________________ - TJ
