Alright, unless you live in a cave, you have heard about how the Mayans have a calendar that dates back to forever and ends on December 21-25 (they are unsure) in the year 2012. It's doomsday prophecies all over the place. Some say there will be a cosmic event. Some say that our poles will shift, causing the poles to become tropical and the equator area to become cold and barren. Blah Blah Blah. Even though I am quite familiar with the verse: Mat 24:36 "However, no one knows the day or the hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself. Only the Father knows." But while believeing that, I even get caught wondering if something catastrophic will happen. I do not however believe it'll be the end of the world, end of civilization, etc etc. But I do wonder about something incredibly frightening happening to the earth. Upheaval, earthquakes, this pole shift thing (that I ave heard about from a few 'nutty' conspiracy theorist friends of mine over the last 7 years). Maybe it IS when the Tribulation starts. Maybe the Rapture. Who knows. But I DO know that Hollywood (aka, the disgusting self-absorbed fear mongering sinners) is going to make money off of the fears, using religion as a pawn, using doomsday scenarios to make films. The movie "2012" comes out in November (I think) and while it looks like it my have some neat special effects...it's also looks like a bunch of hooie. BUT, people are weak sometimes and believe everything they read or see....and I think this is going to be more damaging than anything. What do you think about the whole Mayan Calendar thing? I think they all died with an unfinished calendar, IMHO.

IIRC, the Mayan calendar is cyclical. and has three very large cycles (with lesser cycles within each large cycle) each lasting thousands of years. I suspect that the reason they did not carry their calendar beyond 12/21/12 is that at that point in time the first of the three cycles in their calendar will repeat. I just saw a trailer for the movie 2012. Some of the effects look ok, but some of the action scenarios in the movie go waaaaaayyyyyyyyy beyond any possible reality. I think I will wait until it is on the 2:00 am TV circuit (probably about 6 months after release). k_enn

Agree. The things they were showing were just plain silly.

I've been to Chichen-Itza where they have all these really cool pyramids and stuff, and the guide there told us all about the calendar deal. My opinion? The guy that was doing the calander thing ate a bad burrito and died after he got to 12/21/2012, and they couldn't find another guy to do the work. It seems to me that most of this kinda stuff has simple explanations.

I cannot seem to find the right smiley for this.....................hehehe.
Yeah, that's going to be the new scare tactic of Hollywood and he media because the Avian flu isn't scary anymore. No one is afraid of nuclear bombs (at least not to the point that Hollywood can cash in on it) or asteroids anymore either. Sooooo, we get the whole Mayan Calendar thing. NBC is sure to have a made for tv movie about it before the end of 2011! hehehe |

That movie looks terrible. How many different ways can you show the stuff blowing up behind people when they are running away. I think I counted ten just in the previews. Ground falls away behind the car, buildings fall behind the plane etc, etc... Ridiculous. Oh and for some reason I don't think God gave a special revelation to the Mayans about when some cataclysmic event would happen. Probably just a bunch of mayan Hooie! I have a calendar on my desk that ends on Dec 31, 2009. I'm scared. Luckily I have one right behind it that's good through 2010... whew... saved.
