| EDIT: THIS IS GOING TO BE THE CLUB'S SEPTEMBER RIDE on the 19TH AND 20TH. (some of us will be leaving on friday to get down there early....if you want to do that, we can caravan!) It has been mentioned several times this year that George Washington National Forest would be a great place to have a run/camping trip. Kinda like a retreat weekend. Of course, if you do not camp, there is lodging nearby. I also think it would be a great opportunity to hang out with eachother and be able to talk more. Get to know families better....this is the type of ride the wives and kids would be up for, as it is a nice stroll thru the woods for sightseeing. Chris and I are wondering if you guys would be up for that. I know it's a drive. But it's worth it. Our club run weekend in September is on 19th and 20th. Right now, the only plan discussed was a trip to rock run on the 20th. We re canceling that one (a one day trip that far on a sunday is too much) and have that run weekend open. I'm looking to see how many people are interested. It'll be gorgeous that time of year. So...September 19th and 20th. GWNF in Virginia. Scenic Ride. Camping/hotel. Fellowship. Cookout. Whatdya think?

| The funny thing is, it takes only 10 minutes less to go from Chris' house in Bel Air, MD than it does from Rausch. makes no sense to me.....but I google mapped it. Maybe has something to do with I-81 and I-83 being so fast to drive on. *shrug* | |

| I'm in! Mrs. AutoDoc claims she'll go as long as we get a hotel...so it looks like no camping for me | |

| You know I'm in. I can lead the way if you want. I love GWNF. The best area to check for a room is Harrisonburg, Va. I can gather more details and make a itinerary if you'd like. | |

| Okay, so it's now the plan.....our September run is going to be at George Washington National Forest in Virginia. I will post up more information, directions, camping and lodging when Chris and I get back from North Carolina. | |

| If I can get the Jeep fixed by then, I'll be there. Which trails do you plan to run? | |

| Speaking of geo-caching - anyone recommend a good GPS?
We have a Magellan for the car but it's sorely lacking in the finer details - not to mention David doesn't listen to it anyway
Did I mention how much all of you are a bad influence on me :)

I have 2. a garmin map60csx which is the one I've had for a couple of years and also garmin colorado 300 which has the ability to hold the cache page info in it too. both can hold up to a 1000 caches. There are some others i'll post a link to when we get back from Front Royal where we are doing some geocaching and hiking. And yes we will be stopping to find a couple of geocaches in the forest. I'll post up some links to places to stay too. Right now we are vacationing a little.

| As far as geocaching goes, if you don't already have them, the Rubicon Trail series has a couple good ones in there hidden by an offroader. As far as a good geocaching GPSr, I have a Garmin 76CSX which is basically the same as Mike's 60CSX, but it's a bigger device. The screen size is the same though I think. IMHO the most important feature in a caching GPSr is a built in magnetic compass. Non-compass GPSrs have to be on the move to tell you which way you're pointing, but if you have a magnetic compass, when you drop below a certain speed (like 1 MPH) the compass kicks in so the unit will still reliably point you toward your target. That comes in real handy if you're stumbling around in the woods trying to find a cache. BTW, I think the "S" in the CSX is for sport which means it has a compass built in. | |

| I'm afraid I'm going to have to back out of this trip at the moment. I have waaaaayyyy too many things going on every weekend and we are going to Las Vegas a couple weeks after this for 5 days and I just don't have enough money for everything. I really wanted to go too because it is one of my favorite places to wheel. For those that are going, google Harrisonburg chamber of commerce or hotels and there should be a list of about 10 or so. The Sleep Inn is where I stayed last time and they allow pets for a few more dollars. I like that it is on top of the hill in the middle of everything. some of the other places are cheaper but they aren't as nice or have noise issues. If you need directions to Flagpole knob let me know. | |

We're waiting until Chris gets his schedule (this week, I hope) and if he's working on that sunday, we're going to have the run at Rausch Creek on saturday. I know working weekends will put a damper on the rides, but after not working since November...it's a case of necessity. We love the club runs, but they may have to be only one day...unless people volunteer to lead on sundays. Priority right now is work, as Chris and I still won't live together until the wedding....so I'm not completely his sugar momma yet. (not while paying my own rent....hehehe)

Thank you sweetie. Hopefully, we can get down there. If not, it'll be at Rausch. We'll know by the end of this week.

| I need some clarification! Somewhere the words "scenic ride" were used. If that is a true description, I'd like to include myself and possibly my wife. However, if this ride involves anything more than easy "green" trails, that would be breaking my promise to the wife and my Lord.
It just so happens that my granddaughter's soccer team has a "bye" that weekend, so I might be able to convince my wife to come along. It would definitely have to be a hotel for us.
Someone who's been there before and with some knowledge of plans for the group, please let me know if I should consider this. Remember my 05 is bone stock, except for the 31 inch mud tires and nice, shiney chrome wheels (which I don't want to damage). |
