PostSubject: Re: Larryboy's 2011 Nissan Xterra aka THOR   Larryboy's 2011 Nissan Xterra aka THOR EmptyWed Mar 20, 2013 11:53 am

Looks good. I am a fan of Xterras. They can be awesome off-road. They can also take a pretty good beating without major damage. I had a 2002 with a poor-man's lift, full armor, front locker, winch bumper. It ate up the blue trails at Rausch, and handles some of the blacks ok. I now have a 2012 Pro-4X which is currently stock.

You should give serious thought to the doing the following performance mods:
1. Get rid of the Long Trails. They suck off-road. I like the BFG AT k/o - pretty good off road and nice manners on the road. There are plenty of other good tires available too. Also, go up one size from stock.
2. Get sliders. Save your rocker panels.
3. Get some skids - the Xterra's don't come with decent protection.
4. Since you have an automatic, you might want to look into the radiator by-pass relating to trans fluid to avoid the potentional for the SMOD (Strawberry Milkshake Of Death, the mixing of coolant with trans fluid that can occur from a leak in the system). I hear that it is not entirely certrain that the problem has been eliminated (many think it was eliminated with the 2010 year, but since it takes a few years to manifest itself, some people still do the by-pass on newer Xs).

With those mods, you will be able to take on most or all of the blue trails at Rausch without much risk. If you do a spacer lift, you will be even better and may be able to take on some of the tougher blues and easier blacks.

Enjoy the X.

I agree Xterras are awesome. And thank you for the heads up. I forgot about the milkshake mod and have been wanting to do it since I got my truck. And I agree on the skids and sliders. that is my very next mod. Shrockworks. Then a titan swap and some PRG suspension. That is awesome you got another xterra. I hope I can find the time to go wheeling with you guys soon. Are you on thenewx or now it thenexterra by any chance?

Titan swap - now that is a mod. Not in the future for me. I plan on sliders, skids, spacer lift, winch bumper, and maybe a front locker when I have the funds to spare. Basically, it will be a rebuild of my old one, only with the Nissan rear locker.

My old X got totaled by a lady who ran a stop sign right in front of me. I looked around real hard and there was very little I was interested in (I wanted a manual transmission, and the the only SUV's that still have that are the X, Jeep Wrangler/Unlimited, and Toyota FJ. The X was the "best bang for the buck" by far. I could buy the X with the rear locker, add the armour, and put in a front locker and still save about 4 grand over a Rubicon.

FYI, I am on thenewx.org and on Nexterra.org - using the same screen name as here.

Dang. that sucks about your last X. The pro x 4 is amazing tho. do you have a members rigs on here I would like to see it and follow your build. Im on thenewx as my name on here also. but I think now that I found this I will be spending more time on here around all of these fine folks hahaha. are you going to any events soon? I haven't checked the calendar yet but it would be nice to have two or three of us x guys on the trail. I love wheeling with all types of trucks. im a big fan of rovers/fj/jk and all. but it is nice to have a couple people with the same rig that know about the ins and outs of the vehicle. I could help someone on there jeep but I only know so much about them. But a nissan I can fix with bubble gum hahaha.

No build thread yet. The Pro 4X is still stock, and the old first gen was built long ago without and bild thread.

When I get to modding the current one, I will be posting the mods.
