ford 8.8 ?

i know of a ford 8.8 from a fairmont available for cheap. i am having a hard time finding info about it, other than it is the same as the axle in the fox body mustangs. i know the 8.8 explorer axle is a popular swap, but i'm not sure if this one will be worth it. welding tabs and brackets is not a problem for me.

They have a smaller weaker carrier and will not be a upgrade to a D35. You should be able to get a Explorer axle from a pull it yard for under $200 in a 3.73 or 4.10 gear ratio. try to stay away from the limited slip also.. Makes it harder to add a locker later. but in case you missed the first part...

Jeeper X is spot on....Go to Crazy Rays and look around for the 8.8 from an Explorer. Or if you can find one, there was a year or two that the XJ's came with Dana 44's. Not sure of the year or trim package ( maybe a towing package ) that they were equipped.

The years that the XJ's came with the 44 was 1987-89 and it was with the tow package.. This would be a direct bolt-in if you can find one.
