Hi, for all the people who weren't on the Rausch creek trip yesterday, i'm Erich, was Mike Singer's passenger, don't have a 4 wheeler yet but hopefully will next year. If anyone is wondering, i named my screenname in honor of stephen and my silent prays for the strength of his cage, who i was riding in the passenger seat with up Rollercoaster (what a miracle that was). I'll be around at meets probably whenever Mike is, hopefully i can get involved more in the future

Hey, it was nice to have you and Mike join us! (and I like the screen name!) Do you know what kind of rig your going to get? (suggestion - Wrangler or XJ big grin ) Mike (JeepinUSA) got his rig (which was originally all stock) from Craigs list.

Thanks! yea, Stephen's wild attempt only hit me after i had gotten home and recalled the lack of a seatbelt, ahhh to be 18 and reckless right? and thanks for the suggestion, i was considering a 2dr cherokee if i could get ahold of it, failing that probably a wrangler with an auto as i've always had trouble with stick. And ohh yes, i have certainly caught the wheeling bug, if only i could figure out how to do that in a Ford Focus...

Hello from Parkton Md Empty
PostSubject: Another Suggestion for where to find a vehicle   Hello from Parkton Md EmptySun Mar 27, 2011 8:21 pm

Hello,

Patty said that she will refer to me as Dakota John, I hope she remembers me. Her and I have never met but have spoke via this site. The one time I went with AO she was sick. I started this because I wanted a good family activity and with Christ as the anchor you can't go wrong. I have only gone wheeling once with Alpha Omega in 2009. At that time I was driving my Dodge Dakota and crushed my door (my 6 year old daughter Samantha was my spotter), so now I am an official tree hugger. It was with my first trip that I realized why jeeps are popular. So I bought one (CHEAP $300) and have been working on it ever since. When I bought it it had cosmetic issues, 186,000 miles on the indestructable 4.0. When I registered it in Delaware it passed inspection needing nothing. It currently sits in my garage and I get to work on it rarely. It is a family friendly 1996 ZJ Grand Cherokee. I do not really know what I am doing and have been learning from books, and forums for the most part. My lift is a total of 6 inches with 33 Dick Cepak Mud Tires. I have many plans for it however, time is the issue. Back to my original thought of where to purchase a jeep on the cheap. There is a web site called www.copart.com it is a nationwide clearing house for vehicles from autos, rv's, trucks, trailers, motorcycles, tractor trailers, etc.....There are multiple locations thru out the country. You can visit any of the actual sites and view the vehicle before purchase if you have a location close to you. On the website they have filters that you can narrow down your vehicle choice to exactly what you are looking for. The catch is that you have to have an account, small fee, and some vehicles can only be sold to business license holders (vehicles titled as reconstrution salvage only), however if you can not find the vehicle of your choice you can use a broker for a fee. My fee for the ZJ was I think $200, but when I say you can find a good running vehicle cheap I mean XJ's for between 200-600 bucks. If I had it to do again I would buy the XJ just because of parts availabilty (including bolt in Roll Cages) and price of those parts is less. I guess Grand Cherokee owners are suppose to have money coming out of our ears. So craigslist and ebay are good places but, if you have time, know what you are looking for, not afraid of a little work, are close to a copart lot location(if yu want to see before you buy) , and can shop on line it is copart for sure. Oh I almost forgot they sell the vehicles via on line auction. Like I have said just go to www.copart.com ...... [url=http://www.copart.com] and check it our. Watch a few auctions and see how little XJ's go for. Also do not forget junk yards have tons of XJ and ZJ parts thanks to cash for clunkers. Well I have wasted enough of your time. Good luck and I hope to see you and the others on the trail hopefully by May. My daughter is itching to go....John

cheers Of course I remember you! I see you come by every now and then! We hope to see you this summer. We had a rough time of it last summer and really didn't have any runs. We hope that this summer is a bit better....although Chris just sold his Jeep and mine isn't seeing trails....too stock. But we had fun yesterday. We plan on some good camping trips too...hope you join us, "Dakota John" big grin
