PostSubject: Vacation joys   Sun Aug 02, 2009 2:37 am

This is a joy in disguise.

I just got back from a wonderful week at Bethany Beach with about 30 of my family members.

Every year my family rents a large house at the beach. This year I had to work on both the first and last day of the trip. We go sunday to sunday. The first sunday I am halfway through my day at work and I get a call from my boss saying that I have to work monday. I figured my week is going to be pissy.

Well Monday I get to work. Jeep is all packed and strapped down nice and tight, top down and everything. Noon comes around and I am ready to run for the hills. I am on the run for the ocean. 3 hours later I am pulling into Ocean City. I mean, might as well enjoy some of the day and see the sights. I get 2 miles from the ocean and it starts to pour down. I mean rain like I have not seen in about 10 years. Hail and everything.

I am getting soaked. No top. I am soaked, my bags are soaked, my wife's bags are soaked. Everything is soaked.

Now the joys start:

The ride north through OC is great. The roads are flooded. Water over the tires of my jeep. Every few blocks I stop and help someone in a car or small suv who tried too ford the water and stalled. I even got to help pull a car out of the water, a car that was "floating". So that was fun. At one point I was up to my waist in water, on coastal highway. It was a blast.

Later that night I ripped a contact in half. I thought my week was dead again. I found a shop that could get my prescription. But they didnt have the contacts that I needed. Well 3 hours after hanging up with the local eye doc, they called me back saying they found a pair of contacts for me about an hour away. They went and got them for me. Hurray, i get to go to the beach. Another joy.

The second day there, I get pulled over doing 60 in a 35 in Delaware. The cop reduced the ticket to 8 over. That saved me over 300 bucks and points. Years of people telling how much the cops there are jerks, I was pretty scared. Yet another wonderful joy to my vacation.

I had 3 wonderful days at the beach without any sunburn at all. First time in about 28 years that has happened!!!! I am super happy.

Probably the biggest joy of them all is that I made it home with cash left in my wife's wallet. And we hit probably a dozen jewelry stores on the way home. She did not feel the urge to spend every last dime we took with us!!!

And the last is a joy/pain. I went the whole week without any internet. It was amazing. Well remember back to day one with the rain. I get home about 45 minutes ago and turn on my laptop to check you guys out. The screen is all tied dyed with water in it. I am not in need of a new laptop. Bleh. So things are good and bad with that. I get a new toy, but it is going to cost alot of money.

I love vacations!!!! lets go wheel.

Glad to see that you are looking at what happened the right way and it sounds like you had fun!
