My '05 Wrangler X has a 19 gallon tank, but it will only allow me to fill it to 14 gallons. I had the same situation with my YJ, but knocked the "tube" out and got to full capacity. I was told by one service manager that if I know that tube out of my TJ it will interfere with my emmissions controls and that my "check enginge" light will always be illuminated. Is there anyone out there that successfully "enlarged" the fuel tank on their TJ?

mine always fit 19 gallons in my 97. your light will turn on around 5 gallons left. plus it might drop to empty not to much time after the light turns on. mine does that. it shows i have no gas in my tank but yet i got about 4 to 5 gallons left.

Me too. It wil read empty but only take 12-14 gallons to fill. I would check the sending unit before I modded the tank.

The sending unit is on the pump though No

Are you suggesting that I drive around (close to a gas station and with a gollon in a can) until I run out of fuel and then see how much it takes to fill it up?!?

well not really saying to do that but it says you have a 19 gallon tank. so i guess figure out what your gas milage is and see how much room you got before empty or just fill up every 14 gallons

Not really what I was suggesting either... If you do not see any dents in the tank I would assume that it is the gauge or sending unit, but if you REALLY are that bored and want to know that would be the way to find out.

sounds kinda like that one episode of seinfeld, where cramer wanted to see how far the car would go, before running out of gas
