I ordered two pull-down latches with striker bars on line at a pretty hefty price. They don't come with screws or bolts, but I figure I'd just drill holes and run bolts and nuts to keep them securely in place.
I'm not sure about drilling the holes in the fiberglass (lined with carpet) top! Will nuts and washers be sufficient, or should I use grommets, or would you suggest something else? Whatever I do I'll be using sealant in the holes.
With the hard top currently in storage for the summer, I'm just hoping that the latches and striker plates fall on a flat plane on the roof and not some wierd shaped curve.
All the specs for these things are in metric, and the strength they quoted me is (I believe 240 Newtons) or around 50 foot/poounds. I don't know if that's sufficient to hold the top on at 70 mph, but it's got to be lots stronger than the 3 screws I've had in it in the past.
