there is a d-44 for sale on rc forum for $175out of a j10 truck i figured i will take for 150 ( is that a good price ) it is a drivers drop like i need. but since it is a 6 lug i figured i will have to buy new shafts anyway due to cutting the tubs anyway right. plus i got to get it done for tj suspension then also. if im not on the right track please kick me in the right direction.
going in this direction what do you think this is going to cost putting in a rebuild kit arb locker 2 shafts prolly calipers rotors and pads etc. i remember greg said something about certain shafts to use but i cant remember all the details. over welmed of broken parts at the time.
the axle i have been trying to get on the internet wellllll they delivered another one and of course it was the wrong one again. they said as soon as the axle shows up back were they got it from i will have my money back. hopefully

To change the bolt pattern you'll need to change the front hub flange. The shaft doesn't determine the bolt pattern on the front axle. So you'll probably have to buy aftermarket hub flanges, unless you can find out one you can use with the D44 shaft diameter and spline count with a TJ bolt pattern. And my guess on price is probably gonna be pretty close to if not over $1500 with an ARB and chromoly shafts. You can go with cheaper shafts but then you'll risk breaking them more often which I'm guessing you're trying to avoid. Don't forget to upgrade your axle joints at the same time so you're not constantly grenading them.

i was thinking the shaft like a rear not a front i understand know thanks. thought about going warn manual hubs.
i was hoping i could just buy rubicon size axles instead of having to get them cut everytime i would break one witch i figured it will happen eventually.

From what I understand Rubicon axles are not the same as the older 44's. But I'm not sure which parts are interchangeable.

You are right. Chris (Grateful Red) competes, rolls and does all kinds of crazy stuff with rubicon axles, so they are not that weak, just not as strong as the older ones.

Steve if you had not just spent so much time and $$ on the 8.8 you could swap in a new set of axles to match width and all. Tough choices to be made and it is hard to find a Rubicon Axle. You may just need to save and get a dynatrac.

5+k is just to much for me for a axle. i would rather just stick in a dana 30 open front before i went that route due to the money.

You can order JK axles with TJ brackets already installed, also Dynatrac has modified Mopar axles for sale too. Don't forget the J8 axles available directly from Mopar but you'd have to convert the rear to leaf springs if you wanted the J8 Dana 60 rear...
I'd pick up the Dana 44 you found and convert the BP...just hold off on the locker till later...

Pretty much any Dana 44 you find that is worth putting in a Jeep is going to be longer...JK axles are appealing because you can replace the front and rear at a small price and get E-lockers in both. I also prefer the wider stance and the larger BP. I see 44 fronts for sale all the time. I'm holding out for Rockwells that I can get cheaper than a Dana 30... pirat

Gear Ratio 4.10
Overall length 60.5 Inches
Electric Locker with simple two wire plug
TJ axle and shock brackets already installed
Front ring gear - 8.5 Inches
Rear ring gear - 8.8 inches
High pinion front, low pinion rear
4.88, 5.13, 5.38 - aftermarket ratios available
Rear axle shafts - 1.41 Inches/32 spline
Front axle shafts - 1.31/30 spline

You can order them from any 5-star Jeep dealer or directly from Dynatrac...

Let me know if you need the Dynatrac partnumbers...
Before anyones says anything about the width....standard JK axles are over 65 inches wide....these axles are JK axles modified by Dynatrac to be TJ width and have the TJ brackets already installed

I had dinner with my friend Matt from Maryland Rock Raiders and he said he knows where you can get a 44 housing for a TJ for $100 right near my house. He is going to send me the link when he gets home. I'll call you when I get it.
