When it is metric.

As some of you know, I have been having trouble with the bolts breaking that hold the Warn manual hub onto the wheel. The original studs that came with it were far too weak (and one even broke before reaching the specified torque). So I went and replaced them with grade 8.8 bolts. Even with the replacement bolts, I kept having a lot of breakage.

Stupid me -- I assumed that grade 8.8 metric was the equivalent to US grade 8. No way. It is actually closer to Grade ...

Hey guys...there's a man from our church that is working on his rig and needs some help. I don't have the specific questions yet, but this is part of the message he sent me. I told him to come on by and that way you all (who know what this means) could have a dialogue and maybe help him out.

He wrote:

I'll ask him what, specifically, his questions ...

My '05 Wrangler X has a 19 gallon tank, but it will only allow me to fill it to 14 gallons. I had the same situation with my YJ, but knocked the "tube" out and got to full capacity. I was told by one service manager that if I know that tube out of my TJ it will interfere with my emmissions controls and that my "check enginge" light will always be illuminated. Is there anyone out there that successfully "enlarged" the fuel tank on their TJ?

Now my question is has anybody performed any maintenance on sliding upper windows? I'd like to remove the faulty latch and try to repair it; however the latch is apparently screwd to the window with boltsscrews that require some sort of security bit. (They're a five ...

Hey folks,

I have found the next generation of wheeler...

That is my sister's kid. He turned 7 months today or yesterday. He is sooo much fun. I have been trying for a couple of months to get him to stand up and hold onto the steering wheel. Up until today, he just sat in the seat and threw up. He had a great time chewing on the steering wheel and "driving". lol

First -- I liked Halon since there is no clean up after use, it is very effective for electrical fires, and it can actually be used in an engine compartment by spraying under the hood without opening the hood (this eliminates flare-ups in the face when ...

My 35s showed up late today ! I mounted the first one on a wheel, but have not been able to set the bead. I tried the ratchet strap trick but that was no help. I'm a little leery of doing the starting fluid trick, unless I run out of other ideas. I'm gonna try pulling the valve core and see if I can overwhelm it with air, but my compressor ain't so great at CFMs, so I'm not holding out much hope there. The tires are Super Swamper 35X10.5X15. Any ideas?

About half way through my day at Rausch Creek on the 7th, I developed a sever clunking noise combined with major thumping. The YJ has been in the shope since Monday, and they can find nothing new that needs fixed. In their opinion, the lift kit that was put on last April puts to much of a strain on my drive shaft. So I bit the bullet and ordered a SYE kit and custom Tom Woods CV drive shaft from Truck Stuff N More.

Has anybody experimented with the length of the spare tire bump stopper on a YJ? Since I went to 31 x 10.50 tires, when I open the tail gate it is necessary to lean against the tail gate to get it to move far enough to be able to open the glass on the hard top. (Yes, I have the 31 inch tire mounted on the stock spare tire carrier!)

I tried "whacking" the metal stopper with my rubber mallet and then a regular hammer without much success.

First of all the brake line to the right front wheel was replaced, but the bleeder valve was frozen. He finally managed to open the bleeder valve. He told me the left front line should be replaced also, so I gave him the go-ahead. When he tried to hook the new line up to the "junction" box, or whatever it's called, he stripped the threads on the box. Now he has to find a new/used box. ...

Should I just wait till the temperature warms up by itself and then spray more graphite, or should I put a heat gun to it?

YJ Bumper

I purchased a used, stock, replacement front bumper for my YJ and am wondering if I can put it on myself. First of all I can't find a way to reach what would be the nuts on the torque bolts that hold the bumper in place. So my first question is do the torque bolts screw directly into the frame? My second question, since I don't have a large enough torque bit, is does anyone know whether these bolts are metric or SAE and what size they might be. (This is so I can make a quick trip to Harbor Freight.) ...

For the last several weeks (or maybe longer) my YJ has been having problems starting when cold. Now it seems to have problems restarting after sitting for just a few minutes. I don't know when the last time it was tuned up--I've only had it for about 20,000 miles. That may be the problem, or it could be the fuel pump.

Those of you who have seen the underside of my WRangler know that the gas tank skid and gas tank have been dented quite severly. The gas gauge doesn't work and the fuel ...

If you've read my other recent posts you know that I'm considering trading my off-road YJ for a "street only" YJ or TJ. I would like some advice about the soft tops on TJ's. I couldn't stand the soft top on my YJ because it was so difficult and time consuming to put on and take off, so I chucked it for a hard top. I've heard that the soft tops on a TJ are really easy to put on and take off, or put down and raise. Could someone enlighten me? If I buy another YJ it will definitely be ...

Make sure you sure you have a fuel pressure gauge or you will be needing a new injection pump like I did (do). the cost of a new one from the dealer is $2200 and a rebuilt on is around $1100 on the internet. That is the cost for the part alone. It does not count any labor for the install.
