PostSubject: WHARTON STATE FOREST 2009   Sat Mar 28, 2009 11:48 pm

We are holding our May run in the PineBarrens at the Wharton State Forest.
Info HERE

MAY 16TH AND 17TH (I have the 15th off, to get over there and set up, for anyone wanting to go on friday!)

Like a Star @ heaven There are activities such as visiting Batsto Village and sightseeing different areas within the forest.

Like a Star @ heaven The wheeling is easy and can be done with your regular 4WD vehicle....no mods needed. (I'm bringing my stock Blazer!)

Like a Star @ heaven The roads are mainly fire roads and sandy, with some having some considerable puddles to splash thru.

Like a Star @ heaven Camping at Atsion Family Campground was a blast and there are also hotels in the area for those who do not camp.
(I will post links to all camping and lodging so you can make your reservations. Campground map at bottom of post)

Like a Star @ heaven We camped with a large group last May and it was beautiful. No bugs really, as it's still a bit early. No humidity. Perfect.

Also....HERE is a link to my pictures from Batsto Village and wheelin' last May (and I'm sure anyone who went on that trip can chime in and say how fun it was!!)

We will have a huge BBQ when we get back to camp on saturday...followed by games and fellowship/prayer time.

PLEASE CONSIDER THIS TRIP.....IT'LL BE ONE OF THE BEST TRIPS OF THE YEAR!!!

UPDATE: We will be attending 10am service at CROSSROADS COMMUNITY CHURCH about 12 minutes from the campground. I have been in contact with Pastor Jim and he's been incredibly welcoming. I'm looking forward to this and I know you'll have a great time. (we'll pack up camp beforehand and have breakfast)

We had people in sites 45, 46, 47, 48, and 49 (Chris and I had #49 and I'd like to reserve that one again)
Below is a map.

I am not sure about that one. I am leaving on vacation the beginning of the following week, and may need that weekend to pack and get ready. Will let you know as it gets closer.

yeah Yes, they have a shower/bathroom facility....I believe they have a place to plug in a hairdryer.....but tell her to do as I do....HAIR SCRUNCHIE!!!! Ponytails are all the rage in the woods! Wink

I think it'd be great as a vacation. As for the service sunday morning....do you mean for me to find a church we can all visit, or for us to have our own small service. We WILL be having a bible study/prayer time saturday after we BBQ.

big grin

I don't know if I can make it or not but it sounds like fun.
I don't want to assume anything so as far as food goes, will it be up to each person to bring there own? The reason I ask is because of the mention of the huge BBQ assuming one person will buy for that and take donations? Or everyone brings their own and one person cooks whatever. Just trying to figure out details.

sunny Good point, Tim!!! I had wanted to do something like a pig roast...but it'd be too much $$$ and too complicated in that area. But......Chris is layed off and my money tree has no more leaves on it.... big grin

Chris and I will provide the burgers and dogs (with buns) for saturday evening (Sam's club, here we come). If you want something else, like chicken or steak, you can bring it yourself and toss it on a grill.

We ask that everyone pitch in to bring salads (potato, pasta, green) and chips to go with it. We can even have a list in this thread of what people want to bring for that.

We WILL need people to bring their grills...anything from a Coleman camping grill to a regular one. We will bring one...but it won't be able to handle ALL the food.

Lunches, breakfast, drinks, etc is everyone else's responsibility.

I'll be sure to bring a bunch of chocolate chip cookies for later too! yeah

If I end up being able to go I would be willing to do a sermon if you want to have an unofficial official church service. Do we have anyone willing to lead worship and possibly bring lyrics on sheets of paper or something so we can all sing along? Just throwing that out there.

Obviously I will have to figure out if I can go a.s.a.p. so we can plan on that if that's something you would like to take me up on.

PLEASE GO BACK TO ORIGINAL POST AND READ THE UPDATE ON THE CHURCH SERVICE FOR SUNDAY MORNING.

Also, Pastor Jim added that a good friend of his is the owner of a canoe rental near the camp. He said to let him know if we are interesting in some canoeing on the lake we're camping at. Sounds like fun!!! Post up if you like the idea!!!

yeah
